Literature Text

“Castle Andrewton was built with all the best materials and intentions. It was to be a stronghold against the evil Lillians who’d destroyed every home the poor Andrewians ever built.

“Construction of the walls was quick, but the moat took longer. It was back breaking work out in the baking sun. Frequent respites were needed to keep the workers from over heating.

“Then halfway through the construction, it was decided that the inside needed to be deeper than the outside. That way, should the walls be breached, it would be a long fall when they got inside. That was the plan, anyway.

“Sadly, even the best of plans can go awry. Whether it was from bad workmanship or secret sabotage from the Lillians, the walls soon caved in. Water poured into the castle, destroying the hopes and dreams of the innocent Andrewians …”

“I didn’t destroy your stupid sandcastle!” Lillian protested. “Dad, make him stop.”

    “Did too,” Andrew protested.

    “The ocean did.”

“You broke one of the walls.”

Lillian folded her arms together. “I did not. The dog did.”

“And you threw the ball, so it’s your fault,” Andrew argued, then stuck out his tongue.

Lillian stuck hers out right back at him.

In the front seat, Dad just rolled his eyes. It was going to be a long drive home from the beach.

Flash Fiction Month day 23. This was done to the prompt "Even the grandest of sandcastles eventually fell" by RavenXNevermore. Just a bit of sillyness, that's all.
